Local people encouraged to take part in Autism & ADHD survey
Alan Guest, Committee Member for Healthwatch Gateshead, draws upon his lived experience to encourage local people to take part in our current Autism and ADHD Post-Diagnostic Survey:
"As someone who is autistic and waiting for an ADHD assessment, I know how confusing life after diagnosis can feel — whether you’re a young adult or older. Getting a diagnosis is an important step, but it’s what happens afterwards that really matters.
These surveys give autistic and ADHD people the chance to share their experiences, to show what support actually helps and where gaps still exist. Many of us face long waits, unclear guidance, and the challenge of navigating services that don’t always talk to each other — all while trying to manage everyday life and advocate for ourselves.
By listening to these stories, we can highlight what works, what’s missing, and what changes are needed. My hope is that this work leads to more than awareness — it sparks real, practical action to make post-diagnostic support in Gateshead more inclusive, accessible, and shaped around the people who need it most.
The aim is that the findings will help Healthwatch Gateshead, local services, and commissioners create more accessible, meaningful, and neurodivergent-friendly support pathways.”
This project is divided into two separate surveys, one for people aged 18-24, and one for people aged 50+. Both are specifically aimed at people with a diagnosis of Autism and/or ADHD.
